India Level Series with Big Win at Edgbaston | Full Scores, Centuries & 3rd Test Preview

 
 
England suffered defeat in the 2nd Test match at Headingley. India had full control of the match, electing to bat first and scoring 587, with a great performance by Shubman Gill (269). In the second innings, India made 427 with the loss of 6 wickets, and after that, England made 407, with a counterattack by Jamie Smith (184) and Harry Brook (158), and was all out. So, India won the second Test by 336 runs, leading the series 1-1.

ENGLAND FIGHT BACK:

Despite England's defeat, the counterattack was led by Jamie Smith, who made one of the fastest hundreds in Test Cricket by an Englishman in just 80 balls, in partnership with Harry Brook. This led them to a stand of 303 runs. In the third innings, India declared at 427/6 under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, and England made 271 all out. India won the second Test match by 336 runs.

SHUBMAN GILL RECORDS:

- Shubman Gill became the fifth player to score 400 runs in a single Test match.  
- The 269 was his highest score by an Indian captain in Test.  
- He became the youngest Test Captain to win overseas at the age of 25.

INDIAN BOWLERS PERFORMANCE:

Indian bowlers showcased their performance effectively:

  • Akash Deep took 10 wickets, delivering his first-ever Test fifer.  
  • Mohammad Siraj, with his early swing, disturbed the England top order.  
  • Washington Sundar also made an impact with his spin and took crucial wickets for India.

For England, Shoaib Bashir took five wickets but leaked crucial 286 runs.  

BEN STOKES BATTING:

Ben Stokes wasn't too impressive in this Test, scoring a golden duck in the first innings and then 33 runs in the second innings. This definitely affected England's batting. There is a significant runs gap between Shubman Gill and Ben Stokes, showing a difference in their leadership and batting skills. Hope both do better in the future.

3RD TEST MATCH:

The third Test match will be played from 10 July to 14 July at Lord's. England might expect to return Archer and Atkinson for the third Test match to have a more friendly bowling surface to confront the Indian batting order.

  •  Shubman Gill, who was dominant in the second Test match, fans will have an eye on him to see how he performs next.
